Vaporizers are used to release active ingredients of plants, commonly tobacco, cannabis or other herbs for therapeutical or relaxative purposes and is an alternative to smoking. The vaporizer doesn't burn the herbs, which can release harmful byproducts, but heats it to a point where the active compounds of the material are set free in vapor.
